We
think that Lucy is special because she is happy to have a real home and to
be loved. Lucy was a stray street cat that was abandoned as a baby to a life
of suffering. She was found by my sister at three month old, beat up badly by male
cats, she became pregnant at eight month old. Lucy was really sick and infested
with ear mites and malnourished when we got her. She was sleeping under cars
and in bushes as temperatures reached 10-20 degrees below zero (-23 to -29 °C). My sister
kept her indoors at night but, was unable to keep her or invest in her vet
bills. We were mourning the loss of our fifteen year old cat to cancer the year
before, we never planned to take on a kitten.
So many things about Lucy makes her so special, she is such a friendly little
girl to everyone. It seems that everywhere she goes her happy spirit and
presence leaves an impression on people. We had to take her to a new vet last
week where she had to stay overnight, they kept telling us how sweet she was.
One thing we love about Lucy is how she communicates with us. It is through a
series of little purrs and noises like she's saying what? and hello! She
especially makes these noises when she is discovered in hide and go seek. She
'll go humm? and run into another room behind a door. Lucy has another game
played with an old fitted sheet. I drag an old fitted sheet down the hallway
while tapping it with a feather on a stick against the sheet. Lucy jumps on
and attacks the sheet and feather and I drag her around the apartment on the
magic sheet ride. Oh, if you could see the joy of her expression as though
she is laughing like a child. We were blessed when God sent us a child in the
form of a cat. All I did was create games that makes us all laugh with joy.
Lucy loves to watch the birds on fat cat ledge sometimes so long she falls
asleep in the window.
We worked with Lucy's wild behavior with patience and love. We had her spayed
and treated her ill health. We watched Lucy heal and come alive. Lucy was so
happy to receive her first scratchpad, she ran over and hugged it like a
teddy bear! She loves to play hide and go seek like a child behind doors,
when discovered, she makes these purr like noises and runs again to hide. She
sleeps like a baby with her tongue out, it is so sweet. She loves when you
make the bed and throw the sheet in the air to play under. Lucy is so full of
life now and plays constantly wearing us out. We are glad that Lucy came to
us and we could save the life of a precious street kitten abandoned in the cold.
