Bossy the Lynx Point Siamese
Name: Bossy Boo Boo
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Siamese
Home: White Rock, British Columbia, Canada

This my Lynx Point Siamese Bossy, though mostly I call him Boo-boo. Bossy's a bold one. I got him a year ago from a woman who had moved to an apartment from a house with a yard, and he was unhappy indoors all the time. I live in a townhouse, so he can head out the back (or front door) when he wishes, and roam the neighbourhood.

If you've never had a Siamese, they're a highly intelligent (I'd say about the level of a ten-year-old child), and very sensitive breed. If I don't pay attention to the subtleties of his needs, he becomes visibly anxious, but if I'm on point with him, things go pretty smoothly. He's a dominant male, and certainly makes his presence known. Occasionally I have to put my foot down, and put him outside or such when his demands become unreasonable. We're developing an understanding between us. Often his cues are quite subtle, and not even vocal. I hear "pure" Siamese are often highly vocal, and Boo Boo (I call him that when things are going well, which is most of the time) can be so, but I think the tabby genes mixed into the Lynx Points temper that a bit, and I'm grateful for it! Also, the better I understand him and meet his real needs, the less he whines.

I found out very quickly he's not a cat to get if you're looking for an animal to fill some unmet emotional needs in yourself. He's highly self-centered, though not without his affectionate side, but it's 99.8% on his terms - with very little room for error! His claws are razor sharp and come out quickly if he's unhappy with how he's being handled. He likes some light pets and scratches, especially around his neck, but doesn't like to be picked up or held, or touched in any way that restricts his movement. Scratching his belly induces some primal programming; if you insist on doing it, I suggest you have a supply of rubbing alcohol handy.

He will, however, routinely become snuggly either at the initiation, or near the end of bedtime. Late at night, or early in the morning as we're waking he will sidle up close to me, usually for five - ten minutes but sometimes up to two hours. His favourite place to curl up is in the V made underneath my armpit, in between my chest and my arm. He will often rest his paw or his head on my chest in a little "hug". This is something he seems to need every day - even if it's for five minutes, and in that time I am still, and only with him, and he relaxes profoundly and knows that all is well in the world. It's like a reconnection with his pack in a primal way ... and then he goes about his day with ease.
