The name Mama suites her very well. I found her almost eight years ago, outside on a colder night of the summer, skin and bones, and this HUGE pregnant belly. The minute i laid eyes on her i knew i wanted to give her a new and better home, especially knowing she had little ones on the way. About a week and a half after taking her home, she gave birth to six kittens all with my assistance. three boys and three girls. All having a twin! Two boys are big boned, fluffy, orange and white, two calicos, and two short-haired orange and white striped. I'vee taken care of all of them since day one, but Mama was the best "Mama Cat" to her babies. She was very responsive to their every need, and even for the first few days after they were all born she was still suspicious of me and my family, and decided to hide her babies around the room to try and "protect" them, which worried me because when i woke up i would go visit and id hear all these different cries under different things but she felt it was in their best interest.
At every feeding time, being that there was six kittens and six nipples, feeding time turning into a frenzy with lots of fighting and scratching, but it didn't phase mama. She just laid there trying to make herself and her babies comfortable.
When eight weeks rolled around, I had already found homes for everyone; four with some of my friends and the other twowith us. My dad wasn't approving of it at first but my mom and i knew all along they were apart of the family. We couldn't find a home for Mama and at this point we were all so in love with her she joined the family also. I'm not sure what we would do without Mama now, she completes our little cat family and its so cute to see them together. She's the sweetest cat i've ever met. You can tell she's so thankful for our family by giving her a new life, with her babies. Every day she's always so excited to see us and just cuddle, that's her favorite. Sometimes we'll all be in the family room, which is blocked off by a dog gate because we have three dogs also, and she'll leap over it meowing, coming racing towards us then jump on our chest, purring away and kneading her paws like there's no tomorrow, with what looks like a smile on her face. You can tell all she wants to do is just be with us.
With the kittens almost eight years old now, which is crazy to think because they grew up so fast (they're my children) she still tries to clean them, cuddle with them and sometimes even break up the fights between brother and sister. They even still try to nurse sometimes, which she does not allow anymore, but then she'll pull them close to her and let them curl up next to her instead. I m so thankful and happy to have been in the right place at the right time, because if i wasn't there that night i know she nor those babies would have survived and i wouldn't have all these wonderful memories with her. Mama's so special to me, as are the kittens, and i love her to death. She's given me an experience of what feels like a lifetime for me and i love every moment i spend with her.
