After retiring from 35 years teaching 4th graders I lost my 21-year-old love, Kira, just when I thought we'd have some time together. I was without anyone furry around for a few months so I began visiting our local shelter. Wanting to adopt a couple seniors I had no luck. After watching many kittens in playrooms these two caught my eye. I tried matching them up with other kittens but they would not have it! Each time I separated them, they cried and called for each other.
I found out that they had been rescued from a tough life on the street. There were two "moms" and multiple babies, so no one knew who belonged to who. In the playroom they were crazy for each other!
I was smitten! A couple days later they came home with me. During their first vet check she told me Hannah and Cooper were not really siblings. By examining teeth it was clear they were two or three weeks difference in age and roughly three months old.
They have been the brightest spot in my life! They love playing, eating, and laying on me together. Cooper loves sitting in the windows keeping track of the birds and squirrels. He even waits for the mail delivery person while Hannah growls at them! Hannah enjoys retrieving her favorite fuzzy glitter ball just like a dog. If one gets in trouble, the other hides with him/her. At night we all sleep together with Cooper usually between my knees on top of the blankets. Hannah has to prowl around a bit, but then settles down under the bed, under my head, purring away.
They have been there when I laugh and comforted me when I mourned the loss of my 90-year-old Mom. They were never far away and always seemed to know when I need to laugh or get a kitty "hug!" I have owned countless kitties in my life, but Hannah and Cooper have touched my heart in a truly deep way!
