I don't remember what year we found Blueberry. Just sometime after 2008. I don't know how old she is or what breed, only that she's blue. She's a bit grumpy at times, but mostly she's really sweet. I'm guessing she might have been abandoned because she has anxiety issues and her person didn't understand how to help her. We kept an eye on her for weeks while she wandered the neighborhood as a stray and asked around to see if she had a home and couldn't find it. So, when the winter got very cold, my mother decided to bring her in.
As part of her training, she spent her first weeks in the basement. It was just as well, because her anxiety caused her to poop on the window ledge for the longest time. We never lost patience with her and eventually she calmed down enough to quit that bad behavior on her own and just uses the box like she's supposed to. Now all she does is pull her own hair out in small clumps and spit them out on the floor.
Eventually we were able to let her upstairs and she settled right in. She gets along fine with the other cats. She likes all of her people too, but her favorite person is my step-father and she loves to sit on his lap. She takes long relaxed naps on the couch or on the loveseat in the afternoon with the others and the only really naughty thing she does is claw the stairs in the morning...I think it's a way of expressing how happy she is. She often sits next to the front door on the small curio cabinet and looks out the window either watching the world go by or waiting for her favorite person to come back from work.
Turns out all she needed was a calm and stable home environment and she became a happy kitty.
