Buttercup, the Cat of the Day
Name: Buttercup
Age: Deceased, Seven years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Dilute Tortoiseshell
Home: Del City, Oklahoma, USA

This is Her Royal Highness Buttercup Lucretia Stringfellow the First. Sadly I lost my little girl on February 17, 2013 after her hard-fought battle with lymphoma.

From the moment I met Buttercup I could tell there was something very special, regal actually, about her. She always carried herself like a princess, with her tail held high. Yet like Princess Diana of England, she always had time and compassion for her subjects.

Buttercup, a beautiful dilute torti, I learned, had started out life with difficulty, being a very sick little kitten. But a kind woman rescued her from a shelter, nursed her back to health and patiently found her a loving home. I am forever indebted to Denise for that tender love and care. I was told the funny story that each time Buttercup was brought to an agency to be shown for adoption, that she had figured out if she pretended to be sick, they would let her go back home. She was very smart. It took a few attempts of showing her for her to be adopted. But I always told Buttercup that is because the Lord was waiting on me to find her.

Buttercup was never allowed to be an outdoor cat, although she would cry at the windows to go out. In keeping with her royal-ness, Mommy was put to work as the royal pusher of the pet stroller. Buttercup would be so delighted to go outside in her carriage, to receive her public, that she would literally sway from side to side like Stevie Wonder does when he plays his music. Her whole countenance would light up with joy as we strolled past the trees with birds, or down the sidewalks past the homes. People would flock to her to see her. She was a true princess.

Sadly a year ago Buttercup began to feel a little down. She had multiple tests but nothing showed up. A few months later she went acutely blind in both eyes one day. I was absolutely devastated but my little Princess, held her head high despite that and she adapted. I was so proud of her spirit! We still were unable to determine the cause of her illness at that time. When she began to have breathing issues and was taken to the vet, this time they discovered she had been suffering with lymphoma. I was able to keep her a little while longer and cherished every moment I had with her.

Buttercup has now gone to be with the Lord and she's waiting for me up there with her brand new ruby-encrusted carriage. We've got a date to one day resume our strolls by a tree with brightly colored birds.
