Our
family has been fostering rescue kittens for the Humane Society Silicon
Valley for three years now. Last year, we had a litter of kittens with Amelia
in it. Amelia's litter came to us with swollen eyes and fleas. We had to give
them eye drops and we bathed them multiple times. On top of that, all of
Amelia's litter mates hissed at us! After the baths and eye medicine and
tender loving care, the entire litter became super lovable. We just couldn't
say goodbye to Amelia or her sister, Ruby (who are both named after famous
female figures). A year later, Amelia and Ruby have become a great part of
our lives. At the time of the photo she was about three months old. As you
can see, her markings darkened a lot as time went on, which was interesting!
Amelia is kinda like our problem child. She's always doing stuff that she
isn't supposed to be doing and making her sister look like an angel. In fact,
one time Amelia broke a whole set of plates! When Amelia had tried to jump up
on the table, she didn't quite make it and grabbed the tablecloth to help her
get up. Unfortunately, she was too heavy and brought the plates and the
tablecloth with her!
Amelia is famous in the family for her gigantic tail. When she was a kitten,
her tail was normal size, but it slowly got bigger and bigger until we
finally noticed that the size of her tail was ridiculously large. Amelia's
favorite thing to do is stalk the birds on the bird feeder we have in our
backyard. When we let her out, supervised, in the yard, she'll jump up as
high as possible. She makes it about halfway. Amelia is also cross-eyed,
although most of her pictures don't show it. We also have many cute pictures
of Amelia and Ruby snuggling together. They love each other and get anxious
if a door is closed and they are on opposite sides. Amelia learned to open a
few doors in the house because of her separation anxiety. She is precious to us!
